Herrero & Asociados has won the "Spanish Firm of the Year" Award at the Managing Intellectual Property Global Awards, organised by the leading international intellectual property publication thus named.
These awards, which are given for the first time, are the result of a long investigative process that began last year involving 2000 contacts worldwide and more than 500 interviews among firms from all countries and businesses.
In Spain, the runner-up firms were Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, Clifford Chance and Elzaburu, which are all first-rate firms, proving the very high level of the entrants.
The award-giving event took place in London on 29th March 2006, at a ceremony held at Claridge's Hotel. José Antonio Hernández, our managing partner, Olof Fickert, Patricia Koch, both partners of the firm and Alvaro Cabeza were present on our behalf.
The purpose of these awards is having intellectual property practitioners recognise the excellence of worldwide firms advising on the subject. Awards are also given to the best internal industrial property departments, plurinational firms, and lifetime achievement within this area of law.
The latter award was this edition given to a British judge, Sir Hugh Laddie, who is well known for his expertise in patents and his active court career in the field of industrial property and in particular patents, excelling for his work improving the reputation of British patent Courts.
Managing Intellectual Property is a publication of Euromoney, a Publishing Group with more than 15 years' experience reporting on the legal affairs of international business, making it the undisputed leader in the sector. In addition to publishing a journal specialising in industrial property and like matters (unfair competition, copyright), Managing Intellectual Property publishes a number of directories and contact guides listing the best firms in each country.
Herrero & Asociados is among our country's leading firms in the area of both patents and trade marks, and similarly stands out in prosecuting applications and lawsuits. In all of these fields, our firm has ranked among the leading firms, and it is therefore an honour to be in that position despite being relatively young.
Herrero & Asociados commenced its operations in 1982 and within just twenty-four years has become one of the leading industrial property firms in our country, which achievement would not have been possible had we not had the benefit of a magnificent professional team and a portfolio of loyal clients. Awards of this kind encourage us to continue improving and extending our services whilst remaining true to our philosophy combining customised treatment and a professional service at all times.
This award has made us very proud because it is the based on recognition by our colleagues from all over the world, whom we are sincerely grateful to for their trust in us throughout these years. We do hope that will continue and indeed that bonds will be strengthened in the future.
